Jarjarbink in Wonderland - Bangkok

I just dont have the time to talked about my Bangkok trip for now. I just feel like to blog about my day trip to Maeklong Train Market in Samut Songkram, Thailand.

I got to know this province while I was searching about Amphawa floating market. Its the smaller scale market and less tourist too. The famous one, Damnoen Saduak also in this province too, just next to Amphawa. I just want to go to Amphawa because its open on Friday to Sunday from afternoon till night. But not too late night, I guess. My flight back to KL was on Saturday, 2020pm. I've planned on Saturday morning, I want to go to Chatucak Market the whole day. So, I met with Jimmy, a CS Indonesian guy currently living his student life in Melaka during a gathering in Rangnam. He asked me about the train market in Samut Songkram. I said, I wanna go to the Amphawa floating market which is in Samut Songkram too. So, we teamed up to go there on Friday, 2 July 2010.

9.00 am. - Met Jimmy at BTS Wongwian Yai Station. Walked to the Thaksin Monument to go the local train station - Wongwian Yai Station. It's a bit tricky to find the station because it was really hidden. Do not confused with the BTS. They got the same name but different stations.

Wongwian Yai Station - local train

From here, we took the train to Mahacai station. The train took almost one hour or one and a half hour to reached. No worry, you'll only have to go off at the last station. You can sleep all the way there. You'll see the houses located really close to the train track. So, no peek-a-boo stuff okay. Or you might end up like headless Chucky. I was so lucky to have Asian look. In Thailand, the locals can have free rides on trains and buses. So, on my trip, we got the local fare - which is FREE. Please, don't envy us. And Jimmy, can speak a little Thai. Yeah, we got some advantage here. For falangs, it's all about 10THB.

Mahacai Station

When you arrive at the Mahacai Station, you'll be in the centre of wet market. Walk out from the station and find the pier. I couldn't get the pier's name. As long as you see boats there, you're in the correct place. Please mind that there is no one speaks English here. At the pier, you could say you want to go to Banlaem Station. Or get some Thai to write these places name in Thai. Its easier for you to talk to them. Or you could just print my pictures out for your guidance.

Banlaem Station

All the train has a time table. Dont worry, you'll get the train every hour. You can have your breakfast/lunch here while waiting your train. There are a few shops selling food. Oh, don'  t forget the bun ice-cream. There is sticky rice under those creamy ice cream and corn as a topping. yummy.

Jimmy with his Bun Ice-cream.

From this Banlaem Station, get a ticket to Maeklong Station. The journey took about 1 hour. At first, we got our local fare again. I was talking to Jimmy (quite loud, actually, the train was not full hehe) the ticket officer overheard us and he said we need to pay because we are foreigners. So, we paid 10THB. This train ride a bit crazy. The train was moving forward on the track and at the same time it was swaying slowly from left and right. I felt nausea and i just chose to sleep. And again, the train would take up about 1 hour journey. When you arrive at the station, again, you'll be in the market. This time, it's a dry market. Walk out from there and you'll see the market the other side. Check the time table first before you leave the station. You wouldn't want to miss the train. The train will leave the station maybe in an hour or lesser so you'll have ample time to walk around, lunch and shop, visit the market. Maybe, after the train market, you could go to Amphawa floating market for food or anthing else there. If you are here on Friday - Sunday. Take a bus and pay 10THB and get off at the school which is on a bridge. Walk about 15 minutes and you are there. There is minivan going back to Bangkok in front of the Amphawa floating market cost you 80THB. The last trip is at 7pm. If you want to overnight here, there are a few guesthouses. You can check it out in the market itself.

I just spent 23THB for going to Market Train and Amphawa. And THB80 using minivan back to Bangkok. Click here for the Maeklong Train Market video.

Olympus Mju 550WP

This camera is AWESOME. Small, compact and yes it is waterproof up to 10ft down. So, I just give a try to dip in and snap underwater. well, I really love this camera. But, of course, I will not forget about my Diana Instantback. Let's see the outcome.

Picture 1: Flowers. I used the macro setting

Picture 2: Underwater shot

Picture 3: I didn't use Photoshop. A shot from underwater by Adida

Picture 4: Water effect. Credit to Adida

Picture 5: I like this post. Fierce but she's got a very kind heart.

Picture 6: Girls

Picture 7: Bubble effect. I like this one very much.

So, overall, i really like the underwater shot. For the other shot, i would say it's just like a normal compact camera. I prefer Nikon's. For DSLR, I would probably buying the Canon 550D. Oh my...when will I get those cute camera?

Bukit Gasing, Petaling Jaya

On a bright sunny Sunday morning, 5 of us - Adida & her colleagues (Jana & Stephan), Uncle Lee, Fadil and me went for Bukit Gasing. I was late due I was lost looking for the entrance. Jarjarbink in Wonderland - Taman Negara & Melaka

I guess you guys wouldn't believe when i said i SURVIVED in the jungle? for 2 nights, yeah, this was serius shizznitz. Haha~~i couldn't believe it too myself. I do love trees, flowers, kg. kemensah but TAMAN NEGARA? oh my~~ this is the OLDEST RAINFOREST JUNGLE for godsakes. I received text message from Adida at 7.58am while i was driving. usually, i would have ignored the morning sms. for just that day, i was stopping for the red light, 2 minutes away from my home. to my surprised, it was from ADIDA. hmm, i smelled smelly fish already. i received 2 misscalled from her last night. when i read the sms it was like OMFG!! they wanted to go TAMAN NEGARA on thursday. Yeah, you read it right. IT WAS THURDAY when we reached there. I took 1 day Medical Chit and 1 day Emergency Leave. I was feeling so bad to leave office like that. so, i went back home. pack my things. my mom was at home. by the time I leave home, she was asleep. that was why i didnt inform her. i drove to fetch hafeesa and made a short stop at the money changer. and straight away to agnes place. we were 4 girls and one mat saleh - Andrei (the green foot ape). I met Andrei again. the first time was a few days back when we had nasi lemak with agnes, mark and joel (agnes guests) in seapark. we stopped at Tesco for lunch and bought something else for camping needs. we started off the journey about 5pm. it took 4 hours or so to reach Taman Negara. i gave a hard look to anyone who's going to sit next to me as i was the driver. as andrei was my co-driver, i told him, please do not sleep while im driving because i tend to open the door and push him out. he was like making wierd face and i pretending that i was so serius about it. he tried so hard not to fall asleep. poor thing. haha.

as soon as we reached there, we straight away to the restaurant for dinner. while waiting for the food, i asked andrei wether he could speak french. he said yes. i showed some word Dom text me many months back and he translated for me. then, i showed another word - merci beaucoup which literally means thank you very much. I just wanted to test him - and guess what, he translated the word something else - very sweet translation until we, all the girls went off screaming. high pitch one. and he was like astonished to our reaction. he said, wait, wait. why are you screaming like that? you really like the guy is it? ahaha he apologised and said yeah merci beaucoup is thank you very much. i really wished that i just could kill him. ever since from that scene, i just said, andrei, i really want to kill you. after dinner, we went to our camping site. just because we arrived late, we had to camp at the kampung side. so, we put up our tent. i really dont know how to do it. this was my very first time camping. what to expect? i even brought my ikea pillow and a blanket. ahaha i know it sounds wierd. i just could help little bit - i feel so bad. took shower and just hang around and talk. and we had fresh free falling mangos (its free). so, agnes & andrei slept in the tent. hafeesa, adida & me just slept under the sky. adida & me, couldnt sleep. so, we just keep talking until mid-morning. suddenly, small drops of water hit me. i really thought it was morning mist. adida said, it's going to rain. i dont believe it. tadaaa it rained. both of us, just pack everything so it wont get wet. just after we shift our things, the rain stopped. muahahaha.
i couldn't get to sleep. im afraid i think. i saw a lot of stars beautifully glued across all over dark blue canvas of the sky. and the half moon was shining bright. it was awesome. suddenly, i saw nothing. it was dark. no more stars & the moon. i passed out. hehe. i think i just shut my eyes for 2 hours. i heard the cluck cluck sounds next to me. i slowly opened my eyes, chickens were just marching in one line outside our tent. i totally freakout. oh, it's already morning. i missed my sunrise :p. i just curious about the chickens. im just afraid that they think that we were their food and start picking our flesh. oh my~~ too much imagination. so, i just sit and watched them. they dont even scared to us. well, 4 people still sleeping. its just me. one of them stop in front of me and gave me a wierd look. (of course, it just a chicken look) ahaha. we had breakfast and get ready for the jungle. i eat the local stuff - kuih cek mek molek made from sweet potato, flour and sugar we had to cross the river to get to the park. paid RM1 for the boat crossing. paid another RM2 for the entrance. we started to trek. walking slowly. made a few stops to snap pictures. we paid RM5 for the canopy walk. woo i was walking on 10m high suspension bridge. i was not dare to see below. super crazy. well, i really enjoyed the canopy walk. and i hurt my ankle. and adida said, we need to trekk to lata berkoh taking 4 hours. shoot. how am i going to trekk with hurt ankle. after lunch, we packed our stuffs and head to Lata Berkoh. we took a small boat instead of trekking. it was late afternoon. around 4pm. imagine, if we were supposed to trek to the camping site, walking in dark..wallawey...nevermind, all we did just paid to the boatmen, RM160 per way and the journey saved us 2 hours walking time. i was so tired. i managed to stay awake for the first 20 minutes on the boat. snapped a few pictures. and i heard adida's voice. oh my~~ she was with andrei and hafeesa on the other boat. ohh we were on the river bank full of stones. the boatman said we had to trekk another 10 minutes to the camping base. we went for swimming at the stream. i was very surprised to see the river. the water was very crystal clear yellowish colour. i never seen river like this before. i refused to swim at first but to think back i need to survive one more night there, i slowly sink into the water. hmm not bad. it's cooling though.
after the swim, we went up to the camp. andrei was setting up for the tent, the mosquito net and the camp fire. the girls were busy cooking for the dinner. adida cooked pasta, sardines and omelette and of course, malaysian all-time favourite, rice. the dinner was nice. after dinner, we just sat around the camp fire and star gazing. hafeesa went to sleep. suddenly, we heard something loud in the jungle nearby. on my mind, i was thinking about big cat/big guy. and i really dont know what was happening but all of us were sitting in the mosquito net. there was 2 minutes silent. i looked at agnes. agnes looked at adida. adida looked at andrei. and Andrei looked so confused. we started to giggles among us. suddenly, andrei say something like this, Girls, girls, relax. why are you running into this net? it cant save you from ANYTHING. its just a falling tree. and i think that was so hilarious. well, yeah..logically....if its some kind of animal, we're happily & peacefully die in the tent anyway. soon after that, i chose to sleep.
i dont know what time i woke up. i opened my eyes little bit. still dark. the fire almost died. i heard something on my side of tent. i forced myself to sleep again because i dont want to think anymore. after awhile, i woke up. i saw some people passing through. it was a relieved sight. i sat outside of the tent. enjoying the morning breeze. it was awesome. then, agnes woke up. then adida and hafeesa. andrei was nicely sleeping. we let him sleep a little bit as he wants to trekk back to the ranger's office. the girls will wait for the boat. adida prepared breakfast - french toast. we packed our things. i didnt take the morning showers because i dont want too. so, we're back to the civilization. as soon as we reached at the campsite, suddenly agnes became so angry, anxious and nervous. she told me that her parents already made a police report regards to her missing. Oh my~~ that was the other part of the story. she checked her facebook account, her friend posted the status regards agnes's missing. that was so history. after lunch at the restaurant, we drove back to kl. to fetch suraya sofian to melaka!! i drove all the way from taman negara to melaka. like 6 hours driving. we surfed at agnes place. nice big house, fierce dog and blue parrot and a few chickens.
the next day, agnes took us to melaka city. at first, i want to eat the asam pedas. we went to the restaurant and it wasn't ready yet. so, agnes took us to baba nyonya food. yeah i like the food there. nice. hehe. i felt like going home you know. visit my grandma and super lovely mak long. well, we spent like most of the day in the city. i didn't have time for the visit. maybe next time. agnes brought us to Alai for seafood dinner. it was awesome dinner but i cant eat so much. my skin got irritated by seafood. i just sit and look at them eating.
we leave melaka around 0000 hours. i drove back to kl. i felt abit sleepy but i had the best co-driver ever - suraya. we were like karaoke-ing in the car. singing our heart out. im out of my coffee. i made a short stop at seremban rest house. bought my coffee and yeay we're off to the highway. we reached kl around 2am. sent off suraya and fetch my car at agnes place, tropicana. super crazy road trip. actually, i didnt bring any money at all. i borrowed some money from adida. thank you mokda for everything. aa well, i will go to taman negara again but no overnight in the jungle. thank you hafeesa, agnes and andrei for making my first ever camping so unforgetable one.
for the first timer for camping: just choose to sleep. if not, you'll be freaking out to think ghosts, snakes or even the elephant. haha.
p.s aa andrei, i still want to kill you. whatever it takes. where ever you are. peace.

Jarjarbink in Wonderland - Langkawi

Yeay! Finally, thank to God Almighty to made the trip successfully. Even though there were shouting here and there from my mother. Well, that will be my last family trip - I had fun but Im not happy with my mother, to tell you the truth. Ok, let me finish my trip to Langkawi 7 - 9 April 2010. It was 3D/2N trip. It should be 28 pax but 2 unable to tagged. I was so sorry for Arul. We booked the ticket like 6 months back to get the cheap ticket. RM78 for return and added RM13 for the Airbus. Total RM91. well, it was a good deal, i think.

Day 1 - 7 April 2010.

All came to my house. We need to take the Airbus from KL Sentral. Our flight scheduled at 1610hrs. We went out from the house around 1200hrs. Aa, we're not going to make it, shoot, I said to myself. We were still at KL Sentral 1300hrs. Crazy. We took 1400hrs bus - it should be a 40 minutes ride but the bus trip took longer almost 1 hour plus. I just at Raziman in awe, hoping he would understand my situation. We reached LCCT just in time at 1530hrs. I just asked to collect everybody's IC and checked in for them. Tiny problem was when Mak Yayah didnt bring any evidence about Caca - no Mykid card or whatnot. The guy at first didnt want to let Caca boarded at all. Thanks to the supervisor!! So, we marched towards the departing gate but Pak Ri, Anton & Zizul were stopped by the officer. The luggage problem - oversized for hand luggage. Ohh no!! Well, I did gave them warnings not to bring big bags - like usual, they ignored me now you know hehehe. While in the bus, I gave Raziman to keep all itinerary including our Air Asia's + Airbus + Langkawi to do list because he had a larger document bag. Mine only the I heart Bali beanie bag. And he left all the documents somewhere. And Wawa blaming me - making her wierd face, and my mom like always nagging, blaming and whatnot. how would i know this kind of misopportunate happen? well, shits happened all the time okay. Raziman said to me that we could printed all of it again. no worrys. i kept the itinerary in my emails. luckily, all of us managed to board the plane. we had a smooth journey, ahaha and a few bumps with the mr. cloud. i loike that. like riding a bumper car woohooo. after 45 minutes on the air, we finally touched the ground. and they started again about the itinerary. i was like OK I GET IT. NO NEED TO EXAGGERATE THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN!! I WILL CLEAN THIS MESS. so, we got our pregios and headed to the apartment Sri Lagenda in Kuah town. The apartment was superb - open the front sliding door and splushhhh into the swimming pool. The pool is big and in a good depth. I did a few laps to cover my many months of swimming. well, its just not enough. After swimming, we head to a restaurant for the dinner somewhere a little bit outskirt of Kuah. The food was okay. I enjoyed the Tom Yam Seafood. After dinner, sent off others to hotel & the apartment, Raziman & me headed to Cyber Cafe - to printed out the itineraries again. But, wawa still not satisfied. She said that's not the one she prepared. Ah well, luckily Nani did grab a free copy of Langkawi while in the airport lounge. I went to bed early because tomorrow we will had a long day. good night, langkawi.

Day 2 - 8 April 2010

We woke up early as we need to be in the Kilim Geoforest for our mangrove tour. We were greeted by Pak Li as he is the operator for this tour. We took only for 2 hours trip to Bat Cave, Crocodile Cave, Eagle Feeding, Fish Farm and to the Open Sea (Andaman). At the Bat Cave, that was fun to me. i've never been into any cave. the cave just a small one. I managed to see the bats hanging upside down (sleeping i guess). The smell Oh! my. extremely smelly. i think that was cause by the bat's dropping. then, we hop onn again to our boats and head to Crocodile Cave. I made a joke to Wawa - hey sis, do you remember the movie about the big, bad ass croco a few months back? she's like, CUT THE CRAP. NOW YOU ARE SCARRING ME. Mother just laughed it out. we watched the movie together. The tour guide said its just a name after the cave. no actual crocodile there. the cave mouth looked like a croco. well, nothing much for that cave. the third one, we went to the fish farm. So, i met this sting ray fish. we fed it. the skin, AWESOME. so smooth like silk. the fish was so friendly. i missed the moment when i touch one of the stingrays. Then, we met IKAN PANCUT (shooting fish). they got the name because they can shoot water to the air. So, the guy put some bread on the stick and yadaa yadaaaa the fish shoot the water and the bread dropped off from the stick. And the guy showed one more trick - put some bread on the finger and put the finger closely to the water - tadaaaaa the fish jumped off to get the bread. that was fun!! i just like that part only. then after that, we hopped on to our boat again to the Andaman Open Sea. So the tour guide guy showed us some spectacular sights and yeah he said that i could go to the southern thailand using the route ie: to Satun & Lipe. that's the end of our tour. We did the touristy stuff ie. mahsuri mausoleum, black sand beach, wooheyyy i passed by the Datai Bay - the sea was awesome - turqoise water, super white sandy beach..it really gave me the retreat!! My purpose to come again to Langkawi just to re-visited the cable car. too bad, it was closed due to its service maintenance. i was so frustrated. i really want to go up there. shoot. i really have to come again soon - ermm beach hunt maybe. later in the afternoon, last stop at Idaman Suri - heaven for all housewives, mothers and even children - duty free zone. the chocolate was super duper cheap. nahhh i didnt buy anthing for myself - a bag of daim, one piece of I heart Langkawi T-shirt and tie-dye shirt. that's all. we had dinner at Cenang area. cool place to hangout. lively nightlife weeee. i really like the vibe. but, cant expect a quiet night in this area - pubs, drunken farang & etc. Cenang area is the best place for backpackers.

Day 3 - 9 April 2010

Early morning, we went out for breakfast. we went to eagle square to snap pictures. we went to jetty point - to do some last minute shopping. had lunch near airport. continued to shop at Haji Ismail Group. we were so lucky to had a nice owner. she let us to stay at the apartment till 8pm. so, we went back there and refreshen ourselves. i got my shower. off we went to the airport. so, this was the most chaos time of all. some of the ladies didnt took up for the extra luggage. now, they feel abit scared if they had to pay the extra fees. and then, my mom shouted. arghhh i felt so stress. this is supposed to be a holiday - not to scream here & there!! mom, im really sorry - i really disappointed with you all the way through. i wont come to any family holiday with you again - EVER. and we were lucky for one more time - the ticket officer, she helped us for the luggage. so, none of us needed to pay any extra fees. we were so happy. we reached LCCT after 45 minutes flight. we waited our bags at the carousel and yeay that was fast service. and we hopped to skybus - the journey took around 1 hour. and we were stuck there. the guys went to take the cars. ladies just hangout at the lobby. we're like a stranded passengers. that was so funny. after 30 minutes, the guys arrived with cars to depot us back home. well, that was it.
langkawi trip. definitely, im going there again. i must go to the cable car and BEACH HUNT!! maybe next year - via land! Ahoy!!!!!!!

Jarjarbink in Wonderland - Bali

Tadaaa. I went Bali on 8 March - 10 March 2010. I know, it is very short trip. I cant resist to buy the ticket also. Kinda cheap, I guess. So, I told my mom that i am going to Bali. And she shouted at me via SMS - WHAT!! TRAVEL AGAIN? hehe that was happening. Yeah, I told her that i am going. At first, I wanted to lie. But I just cant do it. I just said, aa yeah i am going. Mother, I'm sorry for the last minute but i just want to let you know. She said, Yeah ok. On the day I depart, she eventually gave me some IDR change - 80,000 IDR. She almost made me cry. She never did this to me. I think this is something cute, you know. Thanks mom, for letting me go. Like always, she looooveees to interrogate me on my departure. She wont say anything until my departure. Funny and wierd. Maybe it's just her style and i have to live with it for the rest of my life.

Day 1.

I woke up kinda early. My flight was at 1540hours. But, I made up my mind to go to the airport early. So, I hitched with Pn. Wawa to Taman Jaya Station. Arrived at KL Sentral around 0900hrs. Straight away to the Money Changer. I changed MYR260 and i got IDR700.000. Well, I just went there just 2 nights. It cant be that bad, right. I bought my bus ticket. It's Airport Coach. Green color bus. MYR10 one way. The journey took 40 minutes. And it is very comfy. And on time too. I was at the airport around 1100hours. Straight away checked-in. WTH!! The guy at the counter, AMIR. Can you just let me to check in. He asked too many questions. Eh, sorang je ke? Pergi mana? Kenapa pergi sorang? Eh, banyak songeh pulak. I was standing there like 15 minutes because something wrong with my itinerary. Amir asked do you have Enrich Card? No. So kenapa kat sini ada Enrich Card? Siapa punya? Im sorry, I really dont know. Now I feel scared. I was thinking he wont let me fly. Just because about the Enrich Card. Enrich Card is like the Bonuslink Card - collect points and redeem. I think I'm going to subscribe it but soon. Not now since I'm not going travel anytime near. Oh my! Langkawi trip is in April which is very soon. But, we've booked the tickets with Airasia 6 months back. It was like dirt cheap - RM78 return ticket. What the hell. So, after 15 minutes, I leave the counter. I didnt check in my bag - I just had only my backpack. I made my way to McDonalds. I found AG eating his American Breakfast. We just chat a little bit then off he go to his flight. I was alone. Not lonely. I got my book. At 1450, I boarded to my flight. I took a seat next to window. There was no one sat next to me. How I wish that Dom sits beside me. He actually really wanted to come with me to Bali. Oh well. The ticket was MYR500++ and it was very pricey. He said, he will meet me on Wednesday. So, I just enjoyed my scenary up there. Serenity. No pollution. Only white clouds - The Cloud Kingdom. And my mind suddenly be so creative. Start to imagine everything. The journey took 2hours and 50 minutes. As i reached Ngurah Rai Airport, it already sunset. Oh my! The sunset was Superb! The sun was fully in orange color just over the sea. I stayed at the airport for awhile to enjoyed it. Suddenly, I felt scared. I really dont know how or what to do next. I settled down my entry and head outside of the airport. It was already dark. So, I remembered LP said I need to get out of the airport area to catch a taxi. I looked around. I had an idea - find a buddy to share the taxi. Well, it didn't workout. I still walking, looking around and texting to AG where should I meet him. He replied - Please go to Mahendra Hotel at Poppies II. I will meet you in a second. Shit!! I really no idea where's the hell is he. Maybe he's with his friends or so. I just hopped into the Taxi and he charged me IDR150.000. Damn. To my surprised, the road intertwined in Kuta was really, really small road. It just can fit one car at a time. motorcycles, bicycle needs to stop and let the car go. Kuta is the nearest town from the airport. The taxi ride it just less than 20 minutes. And I shouldn't paid like IDR150.000. Crazy!!! So, I just checked in at Mahendra. A decent room with fan cost me IDR100.000 (MYR37). At the corner of the Mahendra's reception, there is a small bar selling cheap beers and alcohols. And they have loud music. I said to AG - This is going to be like hell.

After settling everything, we went out for dinner. And looked for another guesthouse for the next day. So, we found a restaurant nearby. I screened the menu. Hell yeah - no pork. So, we just ate our dinner there. Next to our table, there were 3 people from Sarawak. I cant remember the names but one of them, he kept asking me to go for the Rainforest Festival in July. Hmm, now I feel like going also. Muahaha. Maybe next year. *cross finger* After dinner, we walked the whole town of Kuta. Phewww it was tiring and worthwhile. We got another hotel - LA Inn for IDR116.000 (MYR37) AC room with breakfast and a swimming pool. Yeay - this was the great deal of all.

I bought a few postcard. I've promised Farah to sent her from Bali. Then, we just headed to our room. Settle down. AG went out for awhile. I sat in front of the room, and started writing postcard. The music was blasting. The fan - erghhh. Not working properly. I started to laughed to myself. It must be like HELL tonight - definitely.

Day 2.

I cant sleep at all. Too hot. AG took the fan away to him ONLY. Too loud. I was like sweating like HELL. I saw AG sitting outside the room. Looking away from the planet earth. It was 9 a.m. I just took my shower. Pack my things. We're checking out from Mahendra and walked to LA Inn. Put the bags there and walked again. I saw a shop selling Magic Mushroom. I was like YEAYEAYEAY. I always wanted to get this stuff. I saw this movie The Adventures of Harold and Kumar. He saw a unicorn running. Oh my! This stuff must be good. I passed the shop so many times. I said, I need to buy this stuff. Maybe later. So, we walked again. AG needs to find a cheaper room for himself. Im leaving to KL tomorrow and he needs to stay a little bit longer for Nyepi.

Nyepi
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Ogoh-ogoh being paraded in Ngrupuk or The Bhuta Yajna Ritual. Nyepi is a Balinese "Day of Silence" that falls on Bali's Lunar New Year (in 2010, it will be on March 16). It is a day of silence, fasting, and meditation. The day following Nyepi is also celebrated as New year Gudi Padva in Maharashtra and Ugadi in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka in India. Observed from 6 a.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning, Nyepi is a day reserved for self-reflection and as such, anything that might interfere with that purpose is restricted. The main restrictions are: no lighting fires (and lights must be kept low); no working; no entertainment or pleasure; no traveling; and for some, no talking or eating at all. The effect of these prohibitions is that Bali’s usually bustling streets and roads are empty, there is little or no noise from TVs and radios, and few signs of activity are seen even inside homes. The only people to be seen outdoors are the Pecalang, traditional security men who patrol the streets to ensure the prohibitions are being followed. Although Nyepi is primarily a Hindu holiday, non-Hindu residents of Bali observe the day of silence as well, out of respect for their fellow citizens. Even tourists are not exempt; although free to do as they wish inside their hotels, no one is allowed onto the beaches or streets, and the only airport in Bali remains closed for the entire day. The only exceptions granted are for emergency vehicles carrying those with life-threatening conditions and women about to give birth. On the day after Nyepi, known as Ngembak Geni, social activity picks up again quickly, as families and friends gather to ask forgiveness from one another, and to perform certain religious rituals together. First, The Melasti Ritual is performed at the 3-4 previous day. It is dedicated to Sanghyang Widhi Wasa and is performed at the beach to respect them as the owner of The Land and Sea. The ritual performed in temple near the sea (Pura Segara) and meant to purify Arca, Pratima, and Pralingga (sacred objects) belongs to several temples, also to acquire sacred water from the sea. Second, The Bhuta Yajna Ritual is performed in order to vanquish the negative elements and create balance with God, Mankind, and Nature. The ritual also meant to appease Batara Kala by Pecaruan offering. Devout Hindu Balinese villages usually make ogoh-ogoh, demonic statues made of bamboo and paper symbolizing negative elements or malevolent spirits. After the ogoh-ogoh have been paraded around the village, the Ngrupuk ritual takes place, which involves burning the ogoh-ogoh. Third, The Nyepi Rituals is performed with the following conditions:

Amati Geni: No fire/light
Amati Karya: No working
Amati Lelunganan: No traveling
Amati Lelanguan: Fasting and no revelry/self-entertainment
Fourth, The Yoga/Brata Ritual starts at 6:00 AM (e.g. March 26, 2009) and continues to 6:00 AM the next day. Fifth, The Ngebak Agni/Labuh Brata Ritual is performed for all Hindus to forgive each other and to welcome the new days to come.
Sixth and finally, The Dharma Shanti Rituals is performed as the Nyepi Day or "Day of Silence."
